Servin' It Up was recorded in 1998 at Rival studios in Sommerville, MA. The opportunity to record for Severn was presented to Benjie immediately following a week long session for his keyboard work on the Darrell Nulisch album, The Whole Truth. The principal instruments that feature Benjie on this project are piano, Hammond B-3, and Wurlitzer electric piano. The album has a very organic sound, probably because the musicians played everything together in the same room (with the exception of when Benjie overdubbed multiple keyboard parts on some of the songs). Featured on this recording are Severn all-stars, Rob Stupka on drums, Steve "Gallopin'" Gomes on bass, and Alex Schultz on guitar. Some originals, some covers, all groovin'.
